Rylands Sharks 34 Dewsbury Moor Maroons 24

HEAD coach Matt Wilson was unimpressed with his Rylands side despite keeping their unbeaten start to 2017 intact.

They trailed Dewsbury Moor with time running out at Arnold Clark Park, but managed to secure their third win from four games to replace their opponents at the top of National Conference League Division Three.

However, Wilson says individual performances rather than a team effort managed to get them over the line and called on his side to step up their game.

“It’s great to win the game but that’s about as good as it gets,” he said.

“A few individual efforts got us over the line today but collectively, we have to learn to be more disciplined and manage games better.

“We are not playing with anywhere near enough patience about us with the ball and we are giving too many penalties away.

“In four games, we have only put 40 minutes of decent football together per game. That isn’t good enough for the standards we set ourselves.

“We’re happy to win but we know there’s a whole lot to come from us in the coming weeks. We need to improve and quickly.”

After going ahead through Declan Leonard’s early try and Ant Braide’s conversion, Rylands were pegged back by Elliot Sheard’s try for the visitors.

Brad McAlpine crossed for the hosts, but the Yorkshiremen assumed control after that tries from Max Vernon, James Samuel and a second for Sheard put them in command.

Nick Braide’s try sandwiched between two Aiden Ineson penalties for Maroons put the hosts back in with a shout before their rousing late comeback.

Mike Harrison, Theo Holt and Troy Brophy all crossed for Sharks, who travel to Elland on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

RYLANDS A fell to a more experienced Manchester side at Arnold Clark Park on Saturday.

Rob Campbell’s try and Anton Mason’s conversion gave the hosts the perfect start, but that was the only time they held the lead as the visitors racked up the points.

Campbell grabbed a second try before the break, but that was as good as it got for Rylands.
