WOOLSTON Rovers head coach John Fieldhouse is confident his players can “fulfil the dream” of promotion in Saturday’s play-off final against Drighlington, kick off 3pm.

After finishing third behind champions Crosfields and Saturday’s opponents in the National Conference League Division Three table, Rovers made it through to the final by beating Eastmoor Dragons at the weekend.

They will concede home advantage to the Yorkshiremen on Saturday, but Fieldhouse is calling on his players to make that immaterial through their performance.

“The goal for us at the beginning of the season was to get promotion and now we are one game away from doing that,” he said.

“This has been our focus since we started back training last December and I am delighted that we are still in with a chance of fulfilling our dream.

“The lads have put a great amount of effort in over the past nine or 10 months and hopefully we will be able to put in a display that will see us gain the win.”

On Saturday, Rovers were superlative in their dismissal of Eastmoor as Justin Becker’s hat-trick helped them progress to the final.

Sean Conway, Dani Garcia O’Brien and Christian Taylor also crossed in a performance that delighted the head coach.

“Every player all contributed to a superb all-round team performance that saw us gain the win over a very good Eastmoor side,” he said.

“We knew that we had to be at our best if were to get the win and after a cagey opening 20 minutes we managed to stamp our authority on the game and get the result we wanted.”

After losing to their Bradford-based opponents on the opening day of the season on March 19, Rovers produced a superb performance to win the reverse fixture on June 11.

They will be looking to reverse the play-off heartbreak they suffered last year when they were beaten in the semi-finals by Stanningley, who eventually gained promotion.

Drighlington advanced to the final by beating Rovers’ neighbours Rylands Sharks and Fieldhouse knows his side will be up against it.

“We know that Drighlington are a very good side and we will have to be at our best,” he said.

“I am confident that we have the personnel within our ranks that will produce the goods on the day and get us the victory.

“It is going to be a very closely fought encounter but one we are all eagerly looking forward to.”

The club will be running a coach to Bradford for the game, which will leave Monk Sports Club at 11.30am.
