Eastmoor Dragons 24 Woolston Rovers 26

A LAST-GASP try from Billy Maunder made it five consecutive wins for Woolston Rovers as they snatched a narrow win away at Eastmoor Dragons.

Rovers had built up a healthy lead in the second half, but a stunning fightback from the hosts left them staring down the barrel of defeat until Maunder’s late intervention.

Maunder set up Wil Maudsley to open the scoring under the posts early on, but Michael Jedynak crossed to level the scores for the hosts.

Scrum-half Maunder crossed to finish a flowing move and give Rovers a 12-6 lead at the break but was sin-binned for dissent early in the second period.

However, Rovers made light of their disadvantage as Olly Parr and Chris Twigg both scored in the right corner to extend their lead.

This prompted Eastmoor’s fightback and, after James Slater and Michael Williams had reduced the deficit, they edged in front for the first time when substitute Ryan Bowie crossed.

Four points down with five minutes to go and with Ryan Brown in the sin-bin, Rovers’ chances looked slim but Maunder’s great kick and chase saw him force an error and pick up the ball to sprint under the posts, with Twigg’s conversion sealing a dramatic win.
