Woolston Rovers A 4 Chester Gladiators 26

ROVERS’ player-coach Danny Forster praised the effort of his depleted side after they went down to defeat to Chester Gladiators.

Despite winger Jack Holt opening the scoring for the hosts, their guests roared back with 26 unanswered points to register a comfortable win.

After the game Forster, who was also sent to the sin-bin, conceded Chester were worthy winners.

He added: “I cannot fault the effort of my lads; they gave their all, and if the bounce of the ball had been a little kinder then we may have been able to make the scoreline closer.

“But it wasn’t to be and Chester thoroughly deserved to win.

“We were a little depleted, but the lads that stepped in did a sterling job and I am certain we will bounce back in our next game.”

Rovers edged ahead when Holt scored a magnificent try after 10 minutes but the Gladiators responded through Dan Munt, and never looked back.

Tries from Ben Stelmaszek, Jonny Rae, Ryan Turner and Cameron Hogg completed the scoring to give the result a one-sided feel at full-time.

Woolston return to action on Saturday week, April 2, when Wigan St Judes A are their guests.
