WOOLSTON Rovers start their 2016 Kingstone Press National League Division Three campaign against Drighlington in Bradford on Saturday.

A tough encounter is anticipated, with Rovers finishing last season in fifth place – one point behind third-placed Drighlington who went on to lose the play-off final against Stanningley.

Rovers head coach John Fieldhouse said his men are eager to show what they can do.

“We have waited quite a while for our first competitive game so we cannot wait to get out on the field,” said the ex-Great Britain forward.

“Drighlington will provide us with a tough test but it is one that I feel my players are up to.

“We have trained extremely hard since the beginning of December to get ourselves in the best possible condition.

“We have a number of new players in the open-age section this year who are eager to get hold of a shirt. It will be up to the 17 that are on duty on Saturday to perform well enough to keep hold of it for the next game.”

The coach leaves Monks Sports Club at 11.30am for any supporters wishing to travel. Call Nikki Whalley on 07889 170895 to secure a seat.

Meanwhile, Rovers A are looking to back up an emphatic victory over Wigan St Cuthberts against Chester Gladiators at Monk Sports Club on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

Coach Danny Forster said: “We were really happy with the St Cuthberts game and just want to get a similar performance against Chester.

“We know that they are a good side but we will be ready to give it our best shot.

“We have a number of players back available this week and that should allow us to put out another strong side.”
