ROVERS A travel to Widnes Tigers in North West Men's League Division Two on Saturday, looking to build on a hard-fought 31-28 victory over Bank Quay Bulls at the weekend.

The perfect goal-kicking of Rovers full back Glyn Roberts proved to be the difference in the end-to-end thriller.

Rovers opened the scoring in the second minute.

Scrum half Peter Leonard found touch from the kick off and after moving towards the Bulls line the ball reached Roberts on the last tackle and he chipped into the in-goal area and managed to re-gather the ball to score at the side of the posts.

He added the conversion himself but then the Bulls managed to get the ball back from the restart and on the last tackle a bullet pass from stand off Chris Forster found second row Nick Braide at speed to power over on the right and Forster converted.

Rovers hit the front again on 14 minutes when a clever ball from Leonard found Australian centre Justin Becher and he went over from close range wide out on the right.

Roberts converted and then on the half hour Rovers hooker Harry Files spotted a gap and went from dummy half rounding the full back with ease to score between the posts and give Roberts the simplest of conversions.

Immediately Rovers stretched their lead further when Becher collected the re-start and raced 60 metres to outpace the chasing cover and score between the posts.

Roberts converted but then six minutes before the break the Bulls responded when Forster ran the ball on the last tackle and dummied his way through to score at the side of the posts.

Forster added the conversion to his own try to make the half time score 24-12 in Rovers' favour.

Three minutes into the second half a 50-metre break down the middle by Bulls second row Steve Bird stretched the Rovers defence and a quick play the ball saw the ball reach Braide who managed to ground the ball on the right and then just after the hour Braide went over again from close range to complete a fine hat-trick. Forster converted to reduce the Rovers lead to just two points.

A coolly taken long-range drop goal from Roberts nudged Rovers three points ahead and then shortly afterwards the impressive Roberts ducked under an attempted tackle to score at the left of the posts.

He landed his fifth conversion from as many attempts before the Bulls gained a consolation try a minute from time when hooker Jay Jackson went over.

Forster converted to make the final score 31-28 to Rovers.
