RICHARD Egington returned from the weekend’s Samsung World Cup with another silver medal, but buoyed by his boat being closer to reigning world champions Germany.
The Warrington rower was part of a Great Britain’s men’s eight that placed second in Sunday’s final, pushing Olympic champions Canada into third position.
However they almost didn’t make it.
Third in Friday’s heat, Egington and company had to make use of the repechage to make sure of their spot in the final at Lucerne, Switzerland.
They kept pace with the Germans in the opening 500m, reaching the race’s final quarter with Canada and fast-finishers Poland close behind.
Germany reached the finish little more than a second before their British rivals in the regatta’s last race.
