WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s under 15s boys team finished sixth in the National Young Road Relays Champion-ships in Sutton Coldfield on Sunday.

Liam Burthem ran well on a fast first stage to hand over in 12th place in 13mins 6secs.

Dan Evans took over and with an excellent run of 13mins 4secs moved the team into third place.

Matt Wigelsworth took over for the final leg and despite being short of training due to a foot injury ran a brave race to move up into second place by halfway.

Unfortunately, the lost training took its toll and Wigelsworth dropped back to finish in sixth place, running 13mins 40secs for a total time of 39mins 50secs.

The under 15s girls came home ninth, with Kate Merrill (15mins 35secs), Harriet Knowles-Jones (14mins 30secs) and Lizzie Smith (15mins).

Warrington’s B team were 37th courtesy of Jemma Eyre (15mins 46secs), Laura Nicholson (16mins 58secs) and Louise Watterson (16mins 50secs).

The under 17s boys’ team of Cameron Field (12mins 49secs), Chris Smith (13mins 52secs) and Matt Hulse (12mins 57secs) finished 26th in 39mins 38secs.

Sarah McGrail (15mins 28secs), Olivia Bush (16mins 26secs) and Abbie Dickinson (17mins 17secs) took the under 13s girls to 22nd.

n Warrington Athletics Club’s Katie Brough was first woman home in 19mins 2secs as she finished 12th in the 5,000m Bramhall Park run on Saturday.

n America-based Warrington athlete Harry Ellis was the second counter for Butler University in the Bradley Cross Country Classic at Newman Golf Course, Illinois, over an 8k course.

He finished 24th in 25mins 33.3secs.

In Tuscaloosa in the Alabama Crimson Tide Cross Country Classic, Amy Talbot was second counter for McNeese State University, finishing 21st in 18mins 14.86secs for the 5,002m course.
