WOLVES captain Adrian Morley believes the club’s Challenge Cup home ties against Championship One opposition Keighley Cougars and Swinton Lions will give them an advantage over their Super League opposition in the forthcoming weeks.

With Wolves welcoming Castleford Tigers to The Halliwell Jones tomorrow, kick off 8pm, head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith will have a selection of refreshed players ready to return to action after they watched their teammates put a determined Cougars side to the sword on Sunday.

Ben Westwood, Louis Anderson and Brett Hodgson are three of the names that will have welcomed some time to recharge their batteries, while Morley and Michael Monaghan had only brief cameos from the bench.

Morley said: “I certainly think that the draw is an advantage for us, in terms of Super League as well as the cup.

“We won’t be disrespecting Swinton but Tony is a shrewd operator and he did rest a few people and give a few young lads a run out, so it is a definite bonus that we have Swinton in the next round, especially at home.

“Again, it is a game that we won’t take lightly, but if we get a chance to rest people then it gives us the edge later on in the season.”

While Super League clubs such as St Helens and Leeds nurse long injury lists, Wolves are in relatively good shape as they approach the second half of the season.

Only Richie Myler and Ben Harrison are unavailable for selection due to injury and Morley is quick to point out that the rest of the squad are in top condition.

“The lads are raring to go and since Kingy has been back, he has been on fire,” he said.

“Everyone is chomping at the bit and are aware of the competition for places, so everyone is busting a gut to play to their potential and cement their place.”

Castleford will arrive at the Halliwell Jones as one of the form teams in the competition, sitting alongside Wigan in joint fifth and only three points behind Wolves having played a game less.

With the half back combination of Rangi Chase and Danny Orr pulling the strings, Morley is wary of the threat they pose to Wolves' league-topping ambitions.

“Before a ball was kicked you wouldn’t have put them leading the way “Although they have faltered over the Easter period, they are still very dangerous and have a lot of attacking threats in their team,” he said.

“Rangi Chase is definitely going to be their key man, he is very dangerous and a tricky customer so we are going to have to be on the ball with him.

“They are not a one man team by any means but you have to say that he is leading the way at the moment.”
