I AM pleased to announce that Lymm Angling Club's Spring Pool was reopened last week following its recovery from a de-oxygenation.

Already, members have caught well on that water although no silver orfe have featured on catch returns, confirming our view that most died due to lack of oxygen.

Interestingly, the few barbel in that water appear to have survived, as have the roach and rudd that provide a fish a chuck to those using smaller baits.

Sue Jupp enjoyed a short session on Spring Pool on Friday, catching many small fish and a grass carp of about 6lbs on sweetcorn.

Belmont Pool has settled down a little over the past week, following a period of amazing action. Nevertheless, fish ranging from 8lbs to 20lbs have been reported.

The Spam Kid has done it again. That is the self-given name of catfish maestro Steve Addison, who bagged a 30lb fish on Founders Pool a few weeks ago. He has bettered that by landing a fearsome feline of 50lbs 8ozs at Lymmvale.

Steve reported that it took an hour and a half to land his fish, a fight which left him totally exhausted. No doubt Steve and his angling companion Sid will be working on plans for their next catfish catching trip, although he may have to consider Shakerley Mere if wants a bigger fish.

Woodside Pool is alive with fish, with good bags of tench and grass carp reported by anglers using bigger baits. For those that like to catch fish by the hundred, just take maggots with you and you will not stop catching rudd.

Plans have been made to thin out those rudd at the end of the year. That will make room for crucians and allow the remaining rudd to grow to decent sizes.

Two separate bunches of keys have been found on Whitley Pool. If you think they may be yours, give me a ring.

Despite very low levels and crystal clear waters, anglers are having success on rivers.

Our Welsh stretches of the Severn and Vyrnwy are producing chub, dace and barbel.

The Shrewsbury stretches of the Severn have produced some nice barbel overnight, with decent chub landed early in the morning.
