FORMER Lancashire professional Paul Ridgway made an outstanding return to Grappenhall's line-up in Saturday's win at Cheshire County Cricket League Division Two leaders Upton.

Ridgway, who had been sidelined for three weeks with a knee injury, scalped six batsmen as Grappenhall won with five overs remaining to keep their promotion push going.

Eighteen overs had been lost because of rain and Grappenhall closed on 197 for 7, leaving Upton only 36 overs in which to chase a win.

Grappenhall could sense victory with Upton on 124 for 6 with 14 overs remaining and quick bowling Ridgway came to the fore.

Will Sharp had given Grappenhall a chance of victory by reaching his half century with the bat.

Grappenhall's seconds will continue their title push at Burnage on Saturday after a three-wicket success against Alsager's second XI.

Alsager declared on 159 for 6 with Neil Titchard taking 3 for 70.

Sixteen-year-old son Matt then produced 26 not out with the bat after Grappenhall had put themselves under pressure at 127 for 7.

Skipper Andy Wright also steered Grappers to victory with an innings of 21 not out.
