FOUR of Warrington’s handball stars will take the first step on to the ladder of professional sport when they start the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme this month.

AASE will allow Alex Bradley, Aston Lang, Beth Wilbraham and Ste Clarke to study and train as professional athletes for the next two years and subsequently increase their chances of achieving their international handball goals.

The programme offers young sporting talent the chance to train at an elite level with the England Handball Association while still attending their home college to gain academic qualifications, with athletes like double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Addlington benefiting without compromising her studies.

The quartet will make up a fifth of the total programme, as they are four of just 20 young athletes selected.

Warrington will play Manchester HC in their next Men's First Division National League North fixture at Birchwood Leisure Centre on Sunday, with the team looking to maintain their 100 per cent home record.
