CHRIS Riley is a hungry boy!

Five tries in one game should be enough for anyone.

But Riley, admittedly with a cheeky smile on his face, said he would have liked six against Harlequins.

That would have equalled the Super League record set by Bradford Bulls' Lesley Vainikolo.

"I walked off the field pretty disappointed I didn't get six," he said.

"That's just because all the lads were saying let's try and get six.

"Seriously though, I was happy to get a few tries and most of all to get the result that we got."

Just like after scoring in the Wigan friendly, Riley signalled to the sky after his first try against Harlequins.

His mother Amanda died, aged 39, shortly before Christmas and it has been a tough period for the Warrington-born former England Academy star.

"It was nice to get a run out against Wigan (Jan 27) and get a try, which was a special moment for me," he said.

"A few of the lads mentioned my mum when we were on the field on Sunday and there was no better feeling than that and it brought a massive smile to my face and I felt like I had a tear in my eye.

"After the first try I punched up to the sky, it's probably a little thing I'll do all year just to keep my head straight."

He added: "When it all happened with my mum, on the rugby side my head went down and it did affect my training for a little while.

"But Tony Smith has been a great mentor and given me the time that I needed.

"If I needed to train I did so or I had time off if it was needed.

"He's helped me through it, as have all the lads, too.

"And there was nothing better than to run out at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday in front of all the fans - including some of my family - knowing my mum's always going to be here in spirit."

He is focused on achieving as much as possible this season.

"I'm going to work hard week in, week out," he said.

"Hopefully I can maintain a spot in the team because we've got a massive squad this year and everyone's ready to play in different positions as required by the team.

"I'm happy to just keep working hard and giving 100 per cent for Warrington."

Riley might have been disappointed with missing out on a sixth try, but he has already scored half of last season's total in one game.

He'll just have to aim for six against Castleford on Saturday instead!
