WITH many people across the UK hitting the gym and de-toxing at this time of year, a national survey commissioned by Super League sponsor, Engage Mutual Assurance, has revealed that over half of Warrington Wolves rugby league fans don’t believe they’re living a healthy lifestyle, although many aspire to be fit and healthy.

The ‘Engage with your health’ survey showed that 60% of fans believe they don’t exercise enough, although when asked 50% said that exercise is part of their New Year resolutions.

When asked about their eating habits, 59% of respondents said they don’t eat their recommended ‘5-a-day’ and 76% wish their diet was healthier. Fans were also asked whether rugby league players inspire them to be fit, to which 80% agreed. Tina Clare, Head of Brand at Engage Mutual, said: “These results show that fans do want to be fit and healthy. They’re inspired, and this is a great start – now they just need to put this into practice and take a few small steps to make their lifestyle healthier.

“We feel it’s important to highlight the importance of health and fitness and will be working with clubs to highlight the benefits of healthy living to rugby league fans across the country.

“Rugby League players illustrate optimum health and fitness and we have superb ambassadors who can pass on tips and advice to fans out there. We’ll be working hard to ensure that the ‘engage with your health’ message is spread to everyone”.

Warrington Wolves captain and “engage your health” ambassador Adrian Morley encourages healthy eating saying: “It is so important to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every day as it protects your body against illness and it helps keep your body in top condition.

"At home we eat a lot of nutritious food and I am trying to encourage my little boy to get into good eating habits early on. Healthy food can be delicious as well as good for you.”
