RECORD breaker Chris Riley is aiming for Sunday’s 58-0 treat against Harlequins to be a taster for the season ahead.

And with Castleford having defeated champions Leeds Rhinos at the weekend, the scene is set for a battle royal at The Jungle on Saturday, kick off 5.45pm.

“It’s a massive goal of ours to be ruthless and hopefully that’s just set a little example of what we can do this year,” said the 21-year-old, who became the first Wolves player to score five tries in a competitive game since Bob Eccles against Blackpool in a 1982 John Player Trophy tie.

“We don’t want to blow too much smoke as going away to Castleford and other clubs is going to be tough.

“If we can turn teams over like Cas on their own ground then teams will start looking out and thinking ‘this is the real deal’ from Warrington this year.”

Former prop Eccles was at Sunday’s game and could not hide his delight that another Warringtonian had matched his efforts of 28 years ago.

“It’s a great day for him and I’m glad it’s a Warrington ‘fella’.

“He’s come on leaps and bounds in his career and he’s got his season off to a great start - you can’t do much more than score five tries in your first game of the season.”

Riley said it felt good to have become the first Wolves player to touch down five times in a Super League game.

“It’s nice on a personal level and if the lads put the ball there for me to finish off I’ll be happy to do that every week.

“I enjoyed the third try the most because I haven’t scored a hat-trick for the first team before.

“I had been moaning all week to Bridgey (centre Chris Bridge) that I wasn’t getting enough ball in training but he said ‘just wait’ and it came off in the game, with massive thanks to him, Lee Briers and all the lads because they put the tries on a plate for me.”
