THREE players in Warrington Wolves’ Super League squad have signed dual registration contracts with Championship club Leigh Centurions.

Matty Blythe, Lee Mitchell and Tyrone McCarthy, all aged 21, will be made available to Centurions coach Ian Millward for selection if they are not needed by Tony Smith, Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby.

The players will continue to train with Wolves as usual.

Smith believes that the contracts will be invaluable for the young players’ development but will not prevent them filling the gaps left by Wolves injuries or form losses.

He said: “It’s a win-win as they can come back to us at short notice and it gives them a chance to play at a higher level than under 20s.

“It’s pretty competitive at that level and the different coaching offered by Ian Millward will be of benefit as well.”

The three back rowers have each made appearances for Wolves’ first team, but due to the strength of the squad and their learning process have not yet become regulars. They could make their debuts in this weekend’s Northern Rail Cup fixture against Featherstone Rovers at the Leigh Sports Village.
