WOLVES boss Tony Smith has warned players and fans not to let expectations spiral out of control in the run up to their trip to Castleford on Saturday, kick off 5.45pm.

Following the unprecedented 58-0 domination of London outfit Harlequins, the highest margin of victory for any season opener at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, Smith has tried to put the victory into perspective.

“The opposition were down in strength,” he said.

“To get a 58-0 performance every week is a bit beyond anyone’s expectations, even my own.

“But we will continue to set some pretty high standards for ourselves based on the opposition and the conditions we play in.”

Smith’s side are not the only team on a high after the weekend’s fixtures, as Castleford returned from Headingley with two points following a convincing win over reigning champions Leeds.

The ex-England coach was not surprised by the result, believing Super League XV will throw up many more upsets before the Grand Final in October.

He said: “I’m not at all surprised by the result as the rivalry between Leeds and Castleford is enormous.

“Tigers have the ability to put one over on anybody because they’re a tough team.

“No-one should be surprised by any result this year as each of the teams on their day have the ability to beat any other team in the league.”
