THEY have already stamped their mark on the domestic scene, now Garreth Carvell and his partner in crime are ready to wreak havoc on international opposition.

Friends off the pitch and a destructive duo on it, Carvell and his Wolves teammate Adrian Morley established themselves as the most potent prop partnership in Super League this season.

A driving force behind their side’s Challenge Cup success, the pair have maintained consistently high standards and it was no surprise when they were named in Tony Smith’s England squad for the Four Nations.

It is Carvell’s first chance to represent the country of his birth, the former Wales international missing out on selection for last year’s World Cup through injury.

And, refusing to talk up his own performances, the 28-year-old credits his front row partner for helping him get the call this time round.

He said: “I think me and Moz have played pretty well together this season. So going on that, maybe I did deserve a place.

“We’re different types of players but it works well together.

“What I lack, he’s good at and vice versa, so it’s one of those things that works really well and I’m happy to keep it going for England.”

But, given the wealth of front-row talent in the England squad, there are no guarantees the pair will even share the field at any time during the Four Nations.

Carvell intends to use Saturday’s warm-up match against Wales to stake his claim for a place in the Four Nations opener against France.

Prop rivals Jamie Peacock, James Graham and Eorl Crabtree will all miss the clash in Bridgend so the pressure is on to perform.

“There’s a wealth of experience with the likes of James Graham, JP and Moz,” said Carvell.

“It’s going to be difficult to even get into the side but it’s a challenge I’ll enjoy and hopefully I’ll play well enough against Wales to get another chance against France.

“Tony’s pretty fair in that way, he picks on form rather than reputation so if I show a bit of form hopefully I can get in.”

International recognition has capped a stellar season for Carvell, providing justification, if any were needed, for his decision to leave Hull for Warrington in a £60,000 move last winter.

“There’s been no messing,” he said.

“I felt like I was going stale at Hull so moving to Warrington was brilliant.

“It’s freshened me up and with winning the Challenge Cup it was the right move, we’re just a bit disappointed with the league finish.

“But things are on course to change that as well so the next few years are going to be awesome for Warrington.”
