ADRIAN Morley has described the heavy margin of defeat in Saturday’s play-off exit to Catalans Dragons as ‘a bitter pill to swallow’.

Wolves were beaten 46-8 in Perpignan - matching the margin they lost by three months earlier in the regular season - to bring their season to an end.

The skipper said: “We knew it was going to be a tough challenge to go over there and get a result.

“We don’t mind being beaten by the better side on the night but the scoreline was a bitter pill to swallow.”

Lee Briers described his emotions as ‘dejected, disappointed and proud as well in a really weird way’.

He said: “I know the scoreline didn’t reflect it but there was a lot of effort.

“They played well and we knew what they were going to do but we just couldn’t stop it unfortunately.”

Wolves were unhappy with some of the decisions made by referee Steve Ganson, particularly the decision not to award a knock-on when Chris Hicks had the ball stolen from his grasp behind the line as he attempted to improve the position for a conversion.

Michael Monaghan said: “It probably didn’t help us playing into the wind in the first half. We really needed to start well and into a breeze like that was really tough on us.

“We handled ourselves all right in the first half. At half time I thought we were in with a shot.

“We thought it was a 14 or 20-point wind but in the second half we let ourselves down with penalties and a couple of decisions.

“That try to Hicksy could have got us back into the game. If that’s a knock-on, then you’re looking at a different game.”
