RACER Paul Platt was part of the winning team in the Le Mans 24-hour Prokart race at the weekend.

The former Great Sankey High School pupil was one of six drivers in the team, which claimed victory by one lap in the French kart race despite late problems with the axle.

Platt, from Burtonwood, has previously won the British Superkart Championship and the Superkart UK Cup and his team fended off competition from around 40 British teams in the endurance race.

He said: “It’s our best achievement as a team.

“It was close because with an hour to go the car fell apart while I was driving it.

“We were nine laps in the lead but we brought it in and put it back together.

“Then we were down to five laps in the lead when it went again. In the end we won by one lap.

“But before that we didn’t miss a beat.

“One of two of us didn’t have any sleep but it wasn’t too bad.

“The buzz allowed you to stay awake.”
