TONY Tomlinson was first home in Fiddlers Ferry Sailing Club’s Caldwell Cup at the weekend.
He rode the conditions perfectly, arriving at the Monks Hall Bridge mark in the wayferer Thunder just as the tide turned.
He had no problems rounding and turning for home, unlike others in the fleet who had arrived at the bridge first.
Bob Backhouse was second and Ernie Griffths was third.
Youth team members Marcus Griffiths and Aaron Hall, sailing with a damaged jib, still returned home in sixth place.
