JIMMY Lowes is considering making changes to the side that thrashed Wakefield when his former club Bradford come to town tomorrow, Friday.

Wolves were impressive against the Wildcats on Sunday and Lowes had no injuries to report.

But the head coach has already overlooked the normal pecking order on occasions by leaving out the likes of Kevin Penny, Mark Gleeson and Andy Bracek and says everyone must earn their place.

He said: “Even on the back of a good win, we might have to make changes because we face a totally different opposition.

“You try little things tactically that you think will work against that team in that particular week.

“I’ve got a few ideas running around in my head for this week.

“Whether I use them or not, that’s down to the team and myself.

“It’s nothing to do with being a big man and saying we’re doing this change and that change.

“I, as a coach, try to pick the best team.

“And, of course, the players have to earn their places. That’s been quite tough this year because of the players we’ve had available sometimes because of the long-term injuries.

“Now we’ve got Paul Wood coming back, although he’s not going to be available for at least another couple of weeks if he gets a good couple of runs. That’s the plan.

“Hopefully he’ll come through and be stronger for that and make himself available for selection.

“Whether I select him or not after that, that’s down to the lads who are selected at the moment.

“I’ve been pleased with Mike Cooper stepping in. He’s got a lot to learn but he’s been okay.

“So Paul Wood’s not guaranteed to get straight back in.”

Penny, who recently had a spell out of the team after Lowes decided with conditioner Paul Stridgeon that the winger needed to do some physical work, has returned with five tries in two games.

Penny grabbed a hat-trick on Sunday, although Lowes warned the winger not to repeat his showboating skip to the line for his third try, which the boss regarded as ‘disrespectful’ to the opposition.

Lowes, who has said he is happy that Paul Rauhihi is now on the verge of signing a new one-year deal with the club, has refused to take any credit for the Wakefield win.

He said: “I’m riding off what the boys are doing a little bit. You’ve got to put credit in the right direction.

“It was okay with the ball on Sunday but that’s never been an issue with this club. We’ve got to tighten up defensively.

“We let in some soft tries during the first half but played a lot better in the second half again.

“We seem to be quite slow out of the blocks, which is something we need to address.

“We need to play like that for 80 minutes against a good Bradford side. We need to get out and dominate against them and play well.

“We’ve got to keep performing week in, week out if we want to be a serious threat and challenge through the play-offs.

“You need good form going into that part of the season. We’re just getting there, we’re not there quite yet but we are heading in the right direction with our performances.”
