WARRINGTON Athletics Club runners will be competing in the English Schools Cross Country Championships.

Those finishing in the first five places of the junior to senior events in the Cheshire Cross Country Championships at Knights Grange in Winsford on Saturday are automatic selections to represent Cheshire, which includes Esme Heavey, Imogen Wharton, Lucy Davies, Evie-May Williams, Jack Marwood, Jacob Pryor and Oliver Davenport.

Heavey was a convincing winner of the intermediate girls race, with Wharton in second while Hannah Hull took sixth place and Olivia Haselden ninth.

The Warrington team was completed by Sophie Doward in 33rd spot.

Marwood was an outstanding winner of the intermediate boys race, with Pryor running well to clinch fifth place while Tom Welsby was 15th, Elliot Taylor 18th and Harvey Howard 27th.

Davies ran well to seal third position in the senior girls event, while in the junior girls race Williams was fifth with Eva Hayes seventh, Jaycee Morrison 10th, Jessica Andrew 38th and Scarlet Smith 39th.

Davenport crossed the line fourth in the junior boys, followed home by clubmates Isaac McGuffie eighth, Euan Lawton 25th, Alfie Blizzard 32nd, Ben Shaw 37th, Ned Martin 43rd and Ben Goodison 44th.

Three further discretionary and four reserves places are also to be announced for the Cheshire team.

In the minor age group of the Cheshire Championships, those finishing in the first 20 places qualify to represent Cheshire in an inter county event in March.

Grace Rashud ran well to place 11th, with Holly Dutton 23rd, Imogen Roberts 24th, Bella Palin 25th, Millie Costello 30th, April Rimmer 31st, Isla Stapleton 39th and Amelia Taylor 50th.

In the minor boys, Eddie Walker came home 13th with Nathaniel Dickson 18th and Seb Roberts 38th.
