WARRINGTON Athletics Club are flying high in two leagues after the latest rounds took place at the weekend.

The third round of the Cheshire League was held at Victoria Park in mainly dry conditions and although missing some athletes Warrington AC proved too strong, running out winners and consolidating their position at the top of the ladder.

Winners of women’s A events were Lisa Halliday (senior 100m, 13.7secs), Claire Andrew (senior 1500m, 5mins 33.5secs), Sarah Ashcroft (under 15s 800m, 2mins 28.1secs), under 15s 4x100m relay (Sarah Ashcroft, Tallie Sze, Ellie Barker, Olivia Crawford); Grace Southerst (under 13s javelin, 17.86m) and Bethany Roberts (under 11s 600m, 2mins 00.3secs).

And winners in the men’s A events were Lewis Shaw (100m, 12.0secs), Ben Pucill (800m, 1min 57.2secs), Joe Williams (triple jump, 10.10m), 4x100m (Lewis Shaw, Joe Williams, Jacob Pryor, Ben Pucill, 50.3secs), Caleb Adelani (under 15s 200m, 24.3secs), Euan Lawton (under 13s 800m, 2mins 28.2secs).

All other competing Warrington AC athletes helped to amass the winning points total, with many setting personal best times and distances.

Match result (top three): 1 Warrington Athletics Club 535pts; 2 Crewe & Nantwich 519pts; 3 Deeside 461pts.

Under 11s result (top three): 1 Crewe & Nantwich 158pts; 2 Warrington 122pts; 3 West Cheshire 119pts.

Meanwhile, Warrington Athletics Club youngsters made the journey by coach to Sheepmount Stadium, Carlisle, for the third round of the Youth Development League.

The team finished in second place behind the hosts North Cumbria, putting them in top spot in the league.

In the under 15s age group wins came in the girls’ events from Ellie Barker with a treble of 200m A (27.7secs), 300m A (43.8secs) and javelin A (24.20m); Sarah Ashcroft (800m A, 2mins 27.5 secs), Cara Gregory (800m B, 2mins 40.7secs), Olivia Crawford (75m hurdles, 11.8secs) and Sinead Gregory (1500m B, 5mins 18.6secs).

In the boys’ under 15s events, the winners were Caleb Adelani (300m A, 39.7secs), Fraser Savage (high Jump, 1.60m) and Thomas Darbyshire (javelin A, 27.05m).

Winners in the under 13s girls’ events were Eva Hayes (800m A, 2mins 37.1secs), Grace Rashud (1200m A, 4mins 15.0secs), Grace Southerst (javelin A, 17.06m) and Isabelle Barker (javelin B, 11.88m).

And at the same age group in the boys Euan Lawton was victorious in the 1200m A in 3mins 52.0 secs.

Match result (top three): 1 North Cumbria 475pts; 2 Warrington 397pts; 3 Border Harriers 331pts.

League table (top three): 1 Warrington 17pts (1404pts), 2 Horwich RMI Harriers 13pts (960pts), 3, North Cumbria 12pts (1080pts).

Imogen Wharton and Evie-May Williams competed in the English Junior Fell Running Championships as part of the Big Stone races at High Peak Wharton ran excellently to finish fifth in 37mins 55secs in the under 17s race on the 6.3km course.

In the under 13s race Williams ran well to place 14th on the 2.5km course in 19mins 27secs, leaving her 12th in the six-race series.

Four Warrington AC athletes set personal bests in the Trafford Distance Grand Prix at Longford Stadium.

In the 800m series, under 20 Ben Pucill clocked 1min 57.87secs as he finished fourth in his race while under 17 Esme Heavey registered 14.41secs as she finished fourth in her race.

And in the 1500m series, under 17 Jack Marwood finished seventh in his race with 4mins 02.83secs and under 17 Alex Rix won his race in 4mins 31.23secs.

Two Warrington AC runners took part in the high-class Wilmslow 10K, with Jack Pilkington finishing in 105th place with 36mins 19secs and Louise Blizzard placing 399th overall, 45th woman and fourth over 45 woman in 41mins 42secs.
