IT has been another busy week for Warrington Athletics Club competitors.

From the first Trafford Grand Prix of the season, to the English Schools Cup and competing for the country, there are lots of highlights summarised below:

Trafford Grand Prix:

Trafford Athletics Club held the first meeting of their Grand Prix series at Longford Stadium with seven Warrington AC athletes taking part.

In the 400m hurdles, under 20 Lisa Halliday finished third in her race with 67.80secs while in the under 20s men’s 800m Ben Pucill finished second in his race with  1min 59.37secs.

Moving on to the 1500m series, under 17 Jacob Pryor finished sixth in his race in 4mins 25.96secs while in her race under 17 Imogen Wharton came third with 4mins 45.06secs, with both times being personal bests.

In the 3000m series, Brandon Quinton finished ninth while under 17 Jack Marwood came 14th with times of 8mins 39.32secs and 8mins 51.35secs respectively, while under 20 Molly Wormald finished 18th in her race in 13mins 00.69secs, with all being personal bests.

English Schools Cup:

The first round of the English Schools Cup took place featuring Bridgewater High and Lymm High teams containing Warrington Athletics Club members.

In the boys’ junior age group, Lymm had Archie Marwood in the 800m (2mins 43.0secs) and triple jump (8.81m) and Joe Welsby in the 1500m (5mins 28.0secs) and triple jump (7.70m), while Bridgewater had Edward Heavey in the 800m (2mins 52.0secs) and shot putt (5.01m) and Isaac McGuffie in the 1500m (5mins 02.0secs) and long jump (4.01m).

Also in the junior age group, Lymm had in the 800m Ellie-Grace Stuart (2mins 43.0secs) and Evie-May Williams (2mins 45.0secs), Sophie Parkinson in the 1500m (5mins 28.7secs) while Bridgewater had Eva Hayes in the 800m (2mins 41.0secs) and Olivia Crawford in the 75m hurdles (12.3secs) and discus (13.04m).

At intermediate boys’ level, Bridgewater had Fraser Savage in the 100m (12.4secs) and high jump (1.65m) while Sebastian Hampson was in the 1500m (4mins 50.7secs) and discus (11.72m).

Lymm had, in the same age group, Jack Marwood in the 1500m (4mins 27.1secs) and high jump (1.50m) with Tom Welsby in the 1500m (4mins 49.5secs) and triple jump (8.10m) and Jake Sands 80m hurdles (14.1secs) and discus (31.36m).

Christleton 5K:

Five Warrington Athletics Club athletes took part in the Christleton 5K Road Race, with Dave Norman leading them home in 26th place with 18mins 24secs to win the over 60s age group, while Dave Watson finished in 275th place in 19mins 40secs to win the over 65s age group.

Faith Roberts was next in 366th place in 22mins 36secs, with Anne Gregory 367th in 22mins 37secs and her husband Mark just behind in 368th place in 22mins 38secs, with Faith’s time being a new personal best.

Storth Stampede:

Warrington AC’s under 13 athlete Evie-May Williams travelled to Milnthorpe in Lancaster for her second fell race over a slightly less steep but longer course than her first fell race.

Williams ran well to finish in 12th spot, moving up two places with her trademark sprint as she clocked 18mins 40secs.

Great Manchester Junior Run:

Five of Warrington Athletics Club’s youngsters took part in the Great Manchester Junior Run.

In the under 11s age group, Aiden Losty finished 50th in the under 11s boys with  12mins 11secs while in the same age group in the girls Eve Brazier-Kobus finished in an excellent 18th place with  11mins 21secs and Amie Horrocks was 57th in 14mins 35secs.

In the under 13s age group, Thomas Horrocks was 35th in the boys in 11mins 18secs while Ruby Brazier-Kobus was an excellent 10th in the girls in 11mins 21secs.

Essar Chester Half Marathon:

Two of Warrington AC’s master athletes took part in the Essar Chester Half Marathon, with Louise Blizzard finishing in 294th place overall with 1hr 31mins 44secs which placed her 55th woman and 13th woman over 45.

Mervyn Ward was representing England Masters and finished in 436th place overall with 1hr 36mins 30secs placing him in 15th place in the over 65s age group.
