THREE of Warrington Athletics Club’s women runners, ranging from debutants to veterans, completed the London Marathon on Sunday.

Louise Blizzard was the first of the trio to finish, taking 4,645th place overall and 53rd over 45 woman in what was her 28th time in the event.

She clocked 3hrs 11mins 29secs.

Emma Pryor was 20,411th after having taken her place in the race late on following clubmate Dave Norman’s withdrawal.

Her time was 4hrs 07mins 26secs in her second run at the distance, around 10 minutes outside her best time set in 2019.

Jess Connolly, 19, was on her debut at the 26.2 miles distance and finished in 24,219th position overall in 4hrs 20mins 16secs.

Three more Warrington AC runners tackled the London Mini Marathon, which included the British Championships.

Two sixth places were achieved, the first thanks to Jack Marwood in the under 15s boys race with 7mins 51secs which made him the third counter for the winning British Championships north west team.

In the same age group in the girls’ race, Esme Heavey was sixth in 8mins 48secs and was also the second counter for the winning north west team in the British Championships.

Imogen Wharton finished as the fifth north west athlete in 34th place in 9mins 16secs but did not count for the team.

Warrington AC had success in the first round of the 2023 Cheshire Track and Field League which took place at Ellesmere Port on Sunday.

There were individual wins in the men’s events from Elliot Taylor in the under 15s boys B javelin, under 13 boy Louis Green in the A high jump, while in the women’s events they came from Lisa Halliday, Cova Ko and Grace Collins in the senior 100m B, C and D races as well as Faye Lawton with a double win in the B 1500m and B 3000m, under 17 Hannah Hull while destroying her personal best in the 1500m, under 15s Ellie Barker and Emily Kinsey in the A and B 800m, Lore Omotosho in the B javelin.

Further individual wins were recorded in the under 13s age group by Evie-May Williams in the B 800m plus Grace Southerst and Isabelle Barker in the A and B javelin.

All the other athletes gave their best efforts and over all the events achieved many second and third places.

The teams from under 13s to senior age groups ran out the winners while the under 11s finished third.

Meanwhile, Warrington Athletics Club master athlete Steve Burthem, competing for his second-claim club Spectrum Striders, finished 170th overall and ninth in the over 60s age group in the Newlands Memorial Fell race at Newlands Adventure Centre in the Lake District with 2hrs 35mins 56secs.

The 11.5-mile course around the Derwent Fells included 3,609 feet of climbing.
