STEVE Watmough missed out on a bronze medal by 18 seconds in the half marathon held in conjunction with the World Masters Indoor Championships.

This was despite injury-interrupted preparation for the Warrington Athletics Club runner, who finished in 72nd place overall in 1hr 20mins 56secs to place fourth in the over 60s age group in Torun, Poland.

He led the Great Britain team to fifth place in the age-group team event.

Meanwhile, fellow Warrington AC master athlete Louise Blizzard finished third over 45 woman and 377th overall in the Reading Half Marathon in 1hr 30mins 24secs.

Six of their clubmates produced nine personal bests and three season's best times in an open medal meeting staged by Trafford Athletics Club at Longford Stadium.

In her mixed race over 75 metres hurdles, under 15 Olivia Crawford finished second in a personal best 11.95secs to go second in the early season UK rankings.

Under 17 Lewis Shaw clocked a season’s best 14.12secs in winning the 100m hurdles, with Rebecca Hardy taking second in 15.25secs and under 20 Lisa Halliday clinching third in a pb 17.21secs.

Shaw, who is in an early season first place in the UK ranking with his time, wasn't finished there.

In the 100m series he ran a pb 11.86secs as he won his race, while Hardy was second in her race in a PB 12.93secs and in the under 15s race Crawford was fifth in a season’s best 13.65secs.

Shaw ran another pb 24.26secs as he came second in the 200m series, with Hardy fifth in a pb 26.43secs. Lisa Halliday was also fifth in her 200m race in a pb 27.65secs.

In the under 15s 800m, Ellie Barker finished fourth in her race with a pb 2mins 31.68secs.

She later ran another personal best in the 200m, finishing second in her race in 27.85secs.

Second-claim member under 17 Evie Schofield, running for her first claim club Trafford AC, won her race over 80m hurdles in 12.47secs and ran a season’s best 100m in 12.92secs as she finished second in her race.

Her time in the hurdles puts her fourth in the early season UK rankings.

Hardy was back in action for the Lee Valley April Open meeting in London, where she smashed her pb over the 100m hurdles with 14.73secs as she finished second by 1/100th of a second.
