Way back at The Wire's first Challenge Cup Final appearance in 1901 against Batley at Headingley, Leeds, the crowd was so great that some spectators took to viewing the game perched on top of the main stand!

2 Drop in, drop out

Captain Alex Murphy kicked the last two-point drop goal in professional rugby history in England, with his second in the 1974 final against Featherstone Rovers.

3 Brothers in arms

In 2009 versus Huddersfield Giants, Michael Monaghan and Vinnie Anderson both scored tries. Their brothers also scored in finals, Joel Monaghan in 2012, and Louis Anderson in 2010, both against Leeds Rhinos.

4 The in crowd

The Warrington versus Halifax 1954 replay broke all records. Odsal, Bradford, was drowned in a sea of supporters as 102,569 descended on it. This is still the British rugby league attendance record.

Tony Burke, who played prop-forward in the 1990 final, was born on August 25, the same day as this year's cup final takes place.

The last four times Warrington have won the Challenge Cup, the winning captain has had the same initials A.M. - them being Alex Murphy in 1974, and Adrian Morley in 2009, 2010 and 2012.
