ST OSWALDS have succeeded in their plan not to allow King and Queen to walk away with all the major honours this year.

Stuart Goodwin’s side came out on top 171-161 in a thrilling Silcock Cup Final at Crosfields.

Warrington Guardian:

It is the second time in six years that Ossies have got their hands on this piece of Warrington and North Cheshire Bowls Association silverware.

“The King are going for everything this year and we’ve got to one final and turned them over, so it’s great to win,” said captain Goodwin.

“We were a few in front, they got it back level but ultimately in the end our last man’s done the job for us and I’m so pleased for him that we won as a team. Great stuff.

“Dave Penketh gave us a great start at 21-7, Jason Lockett in the middle won to 10 and Duncan Wright at the end 21-11. Job done.

Warrington Guardian:

“It’s great stuff to win a trophy and very hard. This was the two best teams in the league in Warrington playing in the final and we got the better of The King, which is really nice.”

Penketh took the man of the match award but it was Wright who held his nerve in the final match on the green.

Ray Nevins, St Oswalds

Wright was leading 15-11 when Ray Nevins bowed out of the action with his tail between his legs, having lost 21-9 to Damian Morrison.

But cool as you like, Wright sucked in the sideline heckles and steered his side home without conceding another chalk.
