STEVE Price is confident The Wire have enough in their pack to go toe-to-toe with Wigan Warriors tomorrow.

Wolves make the short trip to the DW Stadium without several forwards, with the second row looking particularly light.

Ben Murdoch-Masila and Ben Pomeroy will miss the game with leg injuries sustained in Friday’s win over Salford Red Devils, while Harvey Livett (knee) is not yet ready to return.

With Ben Currie a long-term absentee, it leaves Price with a conundrum as to how to fill his back row.

SQUAD NEWS: Changes afoot for Wire and Wigan

However, it is one he is positive about solving.

“I’m confident we have enough personnel to put in a really good fight,” he told the Guardian.

“Wigan will be desperate, but I’m confident in the 17 who will be out there to do a really good job for us.

“Everyone is fighting for their spots now.

“We know we need to get better and it’s a good challenge for us to do that on Friday against a Wigan side that will be hurting from not so long ago.”

Price is able to call upon captain Chris Hill and influential full-back Stefan Ratchford once again after both were rested against Salford following their exploits for England in Denver just six days previously.

The Wire boss admits they were missed last week but that those who came in gave him something to think about.

“It was common sense to give the lads a rest last week and hopefully we’ll get that back at the back end of the year.

“They both wanted to play, but it was my decision to rest them.

“You always miss your leaders. Any team would.

“I was pleased with the players that came in, the likes of Mitch Brown and George King did a really good job for us.”

The Wire can move level on points with Wigan by beating their neighbours for a third time this season.

They won the reverse Super League fixture in February and unceremoniously dumped the Warriors out of the Challenge Cup last month.

Wigan comprehensively won the Magic Weekend fixture sandwiched in between the two Wire wins, but Price says he is wary of a backlash from Shaun Wane’s side after their cup humbling.

He also called on the Wolves faithful to once again pack out the away end at the DW Stadium and beyond.

“Wigan will respond. We’re expecting it,” he said.

“We have the utmost respect for Wigan as a football club.

“They are going to be wired up for the game, but we have a lot to play for too.

“It’s two quality teams going hard at it and the players are really excited. There is so much motivation for us.

“Every game is important. It is hard to say where this one ranks.

“Given that we are fighting for that second spot, though, this game is a vital one with the way the landscape is at the moment.

“It’s important that we keep evolving and keep getting better.

“I’ve said plenty of times this year that I feel we have the best supporter base in Super League.

“It would be great if we could fill behind the sticks at the DW, even some bits down the side if we can.”
