JUDY Murray says aspiring tennis stars in Warrington should keep the sport “within the family” ahead of the start of Wimbledon.
The former Great Britain Fed Cup captain – mother of two-time Wimbledon champion Sir Andy Murray – was in Warrington recently for a coaching session with around 70 local children.
Murray hopes her session at the David Lloyd session was beneficial for children and club coaches alike.
She also revealed a key piece of advice to young tennis players in the town, with interest in the sport set to peak as Wimbledon gets underway today.
“Find an environment that has lots of different players to train, play and compete with,” she said.
“It’s very important to have a mix of ages as well and to be able to play and train with adults.
“I’m a big believer in family focused clubs as well.
“If the sport stays within the family, you’ll keep kids in the sport for longer.”
