STEFAN Ratchford says he and his England teammates would love the chance to play another game in the United States.

Saturday’s Test win over New Zealand was played in front of a crowd of just under 20,000 at Denver’s Mile High Stadium – the home of American football giants the Denver Broncos.

Ratchford and Warrington Wolves teammate Chris Hill started the game as England eased to a 36-18 victory over the Kiwis, a result he sees as a continuation of their good work from last year’s Rugby League World Cup final.

He also says the players would jump at the chance to return to the USA for future games.

“They had a disappointing World Cup and we were coming off the high of making the final,” he said.

“We wanted to keep on building on what we’ve been doing and I think we did that.

“We were slow out of the blocks and we needed to tweak a few things.

“We worked ourselves into the game and from then on, we were quite impressive.

“It was warm out there so the conditions were tough with the altitude as well. We’d kind of got used to it having trained here over the week.

“There were a few tough moments, but you’re going to get them in international rugby league.

“It was a quick game and the heat was a big factor, but we’ve all enjoyed the experience of being out in Denver.

“If we got the chance to do it again, I’m sure we’d all be excited to come back.”

Ratchford started the game at full-back having won the battle for the number one shirt, with St Helens’ Jonny Lomax starting at stand-off.

After featuring just twice in England’s run to the Rugby League World Cup final, the 29-year-old says he was keen to take the chance to nail down his spot in the team.

“It was disappointing to miss out on the World Cup Final,” he said.

“As good an experience as it was to be at the World Cup, I spent a lot of time sat on the bench wishing I was in the 17.

“I’ve been in and out of the team for the past couple of years and I’ve just been trying to do what I can to show I’m capable of playing at this level.

“It was a really impressive performance in the end. The first 10-15 minutes were quite difficult as they really got a roll on.

“They came out of the blocks flying and there were areas we could improve upon, but I think we did that.

“After that period, I thought we were quite impressive.”
