A WARRINGTON student is getting ready to take on the continent in judo.

Emily Cooper, who attends Priestley College, will represent Great Britain at the Judo Cadet European Championships.

Cooper was selected by GB coaches after impressive recent performances and will now fly out to Bosnia ahead of the start of the tournament on Thursday alongside her coach Peter Blood.

She hopes to emulate and even surpass the achievements of Bekky Livesey, a clubmate at SKK Judo in Newton-le-Willows who won bronze at the European Junior Championships in 2015.

“I really can’t wait to get out there and compete,” she said.

“I will be up against some serious competition so I will have to be at my best.

“I appreciate everything Peter has done for me and it should give me extra confidence that he is there.

“I hope to do as well if not better than Bekky because when I was the little one, she was the person I looked up to the most.”

Priestley sports tutor Katie Radford added: “Everyone at college will be rooting for Emily who has got to go out there and give it her all.

“If she does that then there will be no regrets and I am sure she can come back with a medal.”
