BY his own admission Warrington Wolves head coach Steve Price is not easily pleased but knocking Wigan Warriors out of the Challenge Cup with a ‘nilling’ brought a smile to his face.

“That was our best performance to date,” he said.

“In that first 40 minutes we put them under a lot of pressure with our offense.

“We played with a fair amount of width and stressed their defensive line.

“To come away with a convincing win like that, 23-0, against a quality football team it’s a very pleasing result.

“The zero against Wigan’s name is outstanding. That’s what we pride ourselves on here, being really sound defensively and working hard for each other.

“The guys typified our DNA today.

“Wigan didn’t look like scoring. Bateman went through once but other than that we were outstanding through the whole game.

“It was an electric atmosphere with two quality football teams going at it. I thought it was a quality game of football.”

He was made up with the performance of skipper Chris Hill and said that scrum half Tyrone Roberts has set a benchmark for his future displays in Wire colours.

“It was certainly Tyrone’s best performance of the year,” he acknowledged.

“That’s the standard of Tyrone now. That was his best game by a long shot and there’s still more to come. That’s why I signed him.

“It was pleasing and there was a lot of other good performances too. I thought our skipper Chris Hill was super. He would have been on the field for around the 64-minutes mark.

“Overall it was a great result for our footy club.”

But, he added: “The guys executed the game plan really well. I thought we lacked a little bit of polish in our execution in the middle parts of the second half but I am a hard man to please at times.

“I thought the energy and intensity from start to finish was first class.”
