A HARVEY Livett hat-trick helped The Wire to victory in a breathless encounter with Leeds Rhinos at Headingley.

The youngster’s two late efforts grabbed the victory after Leeds came back to lead via Joel Moon, Ryan Hall and Carl Ablett tries.

Ryan Atkins and Ben Murdoch-Masila also got on the scoresheet in the second half as Warrington made it eight Super League wins in a row.

Kevin Brown and Livett grabbed first-half tries as The Wire took a half-time lead, with Ashton Golding responding for Leeds before a Tyrone Roberts drop goal.

Steve Price’s side made an assured start to the game and took the first chance that came their way.

Livett was heavily involved, with his break initially getting The Wire off their own line before he kicked on twice for Brown to dribble on again and touch down.

They had a further try ruled out by the video referee, but it was not to be long before they crossed again.

Having assisted the first try, the second was all Livett’s own work as he twisted over from dummy-half.

That came after Bryson Goodwin had missed a kickable penalty and, after also dragging the conversion of Livett’s try wide, he was taken off for a concussion assessment and did not return.

Ben Murdoch-Masila came close to scoring with his first touch but his effort was chalked off by the video referee, and it was his late hit on Leeds’ ex-Wire half-back Richie Myler that gave the hosts the territory to open their account.

Golding, who had twice knocked on fielding kicks in the first half, joined the line on the right edge and Livett could not quite get underneath him to stop him grounding the ball.

That gave Leeds momentum, but they did not trouble the scorers again before the break as Roberts took the chance to boot a drop goal on the hooter.

The hosts, aided by two sloppy penalties for moving off the mark, made a good start to the second period and a nice handling move saw Moon wriggle over to narrow the gap to just a point.

Leeds had all the momentum and, with a raucous home crowd behind them, they found another way through.

More excellent handling saw the ball spun out for Hall, and the England winger was able to cross in plenty of space to give his side the lead for the first time.

Before Wire touched the ball again, the Rhinos had crossed again as Myler’s excellent pass sent Ablett screaming through a gaping hole to score out wide.

However, The Wire showed they were not down and out as they got back into it straight away when Brown’s grubber kick was dived upon by the onrushing Atkins.

Then, it became the Harvey Livett show.

First, he got on the end of a nice move following Stefan Ratchford’s offload to nose Wolves back in front before rounding off a break involving Ratchford, Roberts and Jack Hughes to complete his treble.

Murdoch-Masila rampaged over from close range on the full-time hooter to confirm a gutsy victory for The Wire.

Wolves: Ratchford; Charnley, Atkins, Goodwin, Lineham; Brown, Roberts; Hill, Clark, Cooper, Hughes, Livett, Westwood. Subs: Murdoch-Masila, Patton, Akauola, Philbin.
