STEVE Price paid tribute to his Wire players for not falling victim to Huddersfield’s plan to “spoil the game” last night.

The hosts cut loose late on at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, scoring five tries in the final 22 minutes to secure a 38-4 victory – their eighth in a row in all competitions.

Price says he was pleased with how his side “stayed in the grind” to eventually get the better of a Giants side that were making concerted efforts to play the game at their own pace.

However, he said his side had planned for that eventuality throughout the week.

“I thought it was a professional display. Huddersfield came with a game plan to try and spoil the game,” he said.

“They tried to lay over us, find touch and slow it down to their tempo. It is a credit to our guys for not getting frustrated.

“We planned for that all week, we knew that was going to happen but the lads deserve credit for being able to control that.

“I think it was around the 55-minute mark when we started to get a bit of speed in the ruck.

“We had them on the back foot and we had the ability to pull the gun and score a number of tries in succession.

“I was really pleased with the group. There were a number of really good tries scored, especially out wide and that takes really good skill level.

“Ryan Atkins putting Charners away for three again was very pleasing.

“It was about staying in the grind and not getting frustrated with the slow ruck speed. There were a couple of seven or eight-second play-the-balls in there.

“We stuck to our game plan and got eight tries.”

Josh Charnley scored his second hat-trick in succession, while Stefan Ratchford also got two tries of his own.

Tom Lineham, Harvey Livett and Joe Philbin completed the scoring for Warrington and Price was pleased with a number of individual performances.

“I thought it was Tyrone (Roberts) and Kev’s (Brown) best game together, in terms of the speed they were doing things with,” he said.

“Sitaleki (Akauola) punched out around 55 minutes tonight. George King and Joe Philbin went quite long as well.

“It was a good opportunity for Dec Patton tonight as well. I thought he sped the game up when he came on.

“He put the ball on the mark and got people moving at speed, which I was really pleased with.

“I was very pleased with Harvey. He showed a lot of good touches, but more important was his tackle efficiency. He was able to control tackles around him.”

Price also said he expected Mike Cooper, who was included in the 19-man squad for tonight’s game but was left out of the matchday 17, to be fit for Friday’s trip to Leeds Rhinos.

However, he said Dom Crosby (ankle) and Toby King (hamstring) look set to miss out along with long-term absentees Ben Currie (knee) and Jack Johnson (broken leg).
