Halifax Res 30 Warrington Wolves Res 31
HARRY Reardon’s last-gasp drop goal capped a remarkable comeback from Wolves’ reserves on Tuesday night.
Lee Briers’ side trailed 24-12 at the interval, but a second half fightback stunned Halifax to earn them their first victory of 2017.
Kevin Penny, playing his first game for seven months after ankle surgery, got his side off to a flyer by scoring early, but Jordan Syme’s converted try levelled matters.
Fax stepped on the gas and crossed three times in the remainder of the half through Ben Johnston, Sion Jones and Conor McGrath, with Syme adding the conversions to all three scores.
However, Jack Johnson’s try just before the break proved crucial to turning the momentum in Wolves’ favour.
Brad Stanway and Reardon crossed for tries, with two Stanway conversions levelling scores at 24-24.
Reardon and Martin Reilly then swapped converted tries before the Wolves substitute’s 79th-minute drop goal.
