WARRINGTON Hockey Club women's teams returned from their festive break in flying mode.

The first team put themselves three points clear of the relegation zone in Cheshire League Division One with a 4-1 success against Chester's seconds.

Steph Rawlins' early effort was cancelled out shortly after half time, while Jayne Buck put them back into the lead with a powerful strike from a short corner.

Carrie Wright and Kirsty Anderson were called into action in defence before goals from Marian Taig and another from Rawlins made the game safe.

The seconds achieved a similar scoreline against Chester's fourths in Division Four, with goals coming from Becky Miller after a sweep into the D from Laura Page; Jess Palmer after being put through by Lauren Hayes; Vicky Stout from a well rehearsed short corner and a second from a great solo dribble.

The men’s seconds fought hard against second-placed City of Manchester before falling 5-1.

Nick Bottomley was player of the match, while Adam Garrod netted with a stunning finish.
