DESPITE missing out on a medal, Warriors of Warrington swimmer Kathleen Dawson has enjoyed a successful outing at the World Short Course Swimming Championships.
The 18-year-old, a former student of Great Sankey High School, broke her own Scottish record in the 100m backstroke three times during the event in Windsor, Canada.
After posting a time of 57.17secs during the heats to break her previous record of 57.66, Dawson lowered her mark again in the semi-finals by stopping the clock in 56.99secs.
That meant she was the fifth fastest qualifier for the final and that was where she finished, but not before breaking the record again by completing the course in 56.73secs on Wednesday evening.
She finished just 0.28secs behind Great Britain teammate Georgia Davies, who took the bronze medal while Hungarian world record holder Katinka Hosszu took gold.
Dawson has enjoyed an incredible breakthrough year having also won two medals at the European Swimming Championships in London in June.
She took bronze in her 100m backstroke event before helping Great Britain to a gold medal in the 4x100m medley event.
