Latchford Albion 0 Folly Lane 46
LATCHFORD Albion ended a superb season in disappointing fashion as they were heavily beaten in the North West Men’s League Division One play-offs.
Despite having already secured promotion to the Premier Division for next season, Albion had the chance to contest the play-off final at Widnes Vikings’ Select Security Stadium with victory.
However, they came up against an impressive Folly Lane side who ensured most of the bumper crowd at Victoria Park Stadium would go home disappointed.
The visitors played at a pace Albion could not cope with and two handling errors allowed them to open up a 12-0 lead within the opening five minutes.
Those two early scores set the tone for a confident display from Folly Lane and Albion were trailing 28-0 at the break.
Any hopes of a remarkable comeback were extinguished by another score early in the second half and the visitors scored twice more to compound Latchford’s misery.
Despite their disappointing end to the campaign, 2016 is a year the club can look back on with plenty of pride.
Playing in their impressive new home for the first time, they lost just five regular season games to win promotion behind runaway champions Orrell St James.
