In the Oulton Park Gold Cup, organised by the Historic Sports Car Club, good friends and rivals on the track in their 1964 MG B Sports cars, Martin Richardson and Andrew Bentley, were in their usual closely matched form.

After dealing with spinning cars, spilt oil on the track, and slower E-type Jaguars, they finished first and second in their class.

Richardson posted the class fastest lap.

Bryn Griffiths, in a 1964 Sunbeam Alpine, finished 17th overall in his race and fourth in Class.

Warrington’s star of the day, Mark Jones, was in his ex-BTCC Touring Car (a 1999 2 litre Renault Laguna) in the Super Touring Car Championship race.

Starting from third on the grid after being hampered by slower cars during qualifying, he hoped to gain at least one spot during the race as he felt the car was capable of more but was starting behind John Cleland, the 1995 BTCC Champion!

While Jones hung on to Cleland’s tail for the early laps, Cleland proved too fast for him in the later laps of the race and Jones finished five seconds behind him in third place at the flag for a spot on the podium.

Two Warrington drivers were racing at Oulton Park in the previous weekend's Mini Festival.

A week earlier, two Warrington drivers were racing at Oulton Park during the Mini Festival with very mixed results.

Stephen Johansen, in a 2 litre VW Polo, was racing in the VAG Trophy Race.

Starting from fifth on the grid, with cold tyres, he lost a place on the first lap but once the tyres warmed up he started to gain places.

When he had got up to third, a slight collision with another car sent him spinning onto the grass and lost him some time but he managed to retain the place and subsequently gain another place to finish second overall.

Michael Bamber with his 1600cc Mini Cooper was racing in the Mini Challenge series but with mixed results.

He was forced off the track in an incident on the last lap when lying in fourteenth place after starting from thirtieth on the grid.

For the second (shortened) race and starting from twenty first place, he had climbed to seventeenth by the finish.
