A STORMING first-half performance helped Wolves’ under 19 side to a convincing victory over Castleford at Victoria Park Stadium on Thursday night.

Harvey Livett ran in a hat-trick of tries and also kicked five goals as Lee Briers’ side saw off the Yorkshiremen in fine style.

After the game, Briers says he was delighted with what he saw and heaped praise upon his side.

“That was one of our best eighty minute performances we have put in this season,” he said.

“We were fast out of the traps and managed to control the game really well. Our defence was really good and that gave us confidence then to play some really expansive rugby league when we had the ball.

“It was a short turnaround for us having played on Saturday but the energy and enthusiasm that we had all the way through the side was superb.”

It took them just four minutes to take the lead when Declan Kay crossed close to the posts before Will Dagger crossed in the left corner to stretch the advantage.

The visitors hit back when former Wolves academy player Davey Dixon went over unopposed before Livett squeezed over on the right for his first of the evening.

Reece Brunt then burrowed over from dummy-half and Jack Fox’s try in the right corner made it 26-6 to the hosts at the break.

Castleford got themselves a foothold in the game with the first score of the second half when Russ Barton crossed on the right, but Livett’s second try re-established Wolves’ 20-point cushion.

The stand-off then raced through a gap in the Tigers defence to complete his hat trick and put the seal on a fine win for Wolves.
