DAMIAN Morrison sums up May succinctly.

“I’ve had a good month,” he said. “I’m playing quite well and I’m happy with three wins in a month.”

Victory in the Rudheath Spring Open in Northwich on Saturday night, which pocketed him £600, came hot on the heels of the previous Sunday’s Lancashire Merit success at Bellingham Bowls Club in Wigan.

Triumph was also recorded in Warrington’s Tetley Walker Floodlit.

This gives him plenty of confidence for the county action ahead with Lancashire against Wales on June 5 and in the last 16 of the Derek Fletcher Classic at Dobbies Bowls Club in Bolton on June 12.

Thanks to the Lancashire Merit achievement, he also has appearances in the two most prestigious British Crown Green Bowls Association finales to look forward to - the ‘All England’ Senior Individual Merit at Llay Welfare Bowls Club in Wrexham on Saturday, July 30, along with the Champion of Champions at the Waterloo Hotel in Blackpool on September 24.

Defeating fellow Warrington crack shot Carl Armitage in the Tetley Walker decider 21-10 put Morrison’s month on to a good footing.

The 42-year-old from Padgate then overhauled Woolston’s Steve Gilfedder 21-10 to lift the Lancashire Merit for the second time, having previously secured the prize in 2006.

Gilfedder knocked out King and Queen’s Danny Watson 21-18 in the semi finals.

Morrison, who works in the building cleaning services department at Warrington Borough Council, scrubbed out North Midlands hopeful Darren Plenderleigh 21-17 to clinch the Rudheath Spring Open for the first time.

With his King and Queen side also sat at the summit of the Manchester Premier League, and placed handily in second spot in both the Monday and Friday sections of the Warrington and North Cheshire Bowls Association, his season is swimming along nicely.
