Bank Quay Bulls 20 Blackbrook 18.

BANK Quay Bulls produced a stunning performance to defeat holders Blackbrook and lift amateur rugby league's North West Counties Premiership Cup for the first time.

Bulls fell behind to a Blackbrook converted try on Saturday and, although Wes Lawton scored from dummy half to reduce the deficit, their St Helens opponents then crossed for another converted effort.

But Bank Quay began to dominate the game and Carl Turner stepped inside for a try before Andy Bennett's superb pass put Lee Caldwell over, with Ryan Fieldhouse converting to put them 14-12 ahead at the interval.

Bank Quay kept up the pressure at the start of the second half, with Ste Fisher touching down a try converted by Anthony Braide.

Blackbrook did score a converted try in stoppage time to make it 20-18 but Bank Quay, for whom Phil Braddish, was the man of the match, had done enough.

Bank Quay visit Crosfields in the semi finals of the Carlsberg Tetley Warrington Cup on Saturday, while their A team host Westbrook at Longshaw Street, with both games starting at 2.30pm.
