VINNIE Anderson says the fear of embarrassment is the reason behind his recent long-range scoring efforts.

Anderson has scored six tries in three matches and two of those tries were from deep inside his own half.

A 95-metre interception try at Bradford was followed by an 88-metre dash through the Salford defence at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Anderson modestly played down his recent scoring spree, saying: "They've been nothing spectacular, just finishing off everyone else's hard work. I appreciate the teammates for that."

But, on the subject of his long-range efforts, he added: "I've never really thought I could run the length of the field and I ended up doing it two weeks in a row.

"I prefer not to and I don't think I'm that fast. I think it's just fear!

"The embarrassment of being tackled a metre short of the try line has been getting me there."

With Chris Bridge no closer to a return from his persistent injury problems, Anderson looks set for a run in the side at stand off - away from his favoured position of loose forward.

But things have gone well so far in the halves and he is already starting to repay the £50,000 fee Wolves paid St Helens for his services at the end of last season.

Anderson said: "I'm pretty happy with my form at the moment.

"Obviously I'm playing at six now so it's taken me a while to get used to it but I think I'm getting better with each game. Lee Briers is helping me out a lot with that.

"I'm trying to just play my natural game and not change it too much. I think that would probably be worse for the team.

"But I certainly get to touch the ball a lot more and, like I said, Briersy's been helping me out heaps with my positional play and what I should be doing at certain times in the game.

"Hopefully I'll just get better and better."
