THE comings and goings at Warrington Wolves are certainly making interesting reading – and there will be more to come between now and the end of the season.

It is well documented that a scrum half is being sought, with Parramatta’s Chris Sandow still looking the likely replacement for Richie Myler after his decision to join Catalans Dragons.

But what about the centre department, with Chris Bridge doing a ‘Jon Clarke’ and departing to Widnes Vikings at the end of the campaign?

Supporters are now speculating on who will be brought in to take over from Bridge, who made the number three shirt his own after Martin Gleeson’s exit in 2009.

My point this week is not to expect Warrington to dip into the market for a like-for-like replacement for every player that departs.

That is why Warrington chiefs have enhanced their efforts in the youth set-up over the past 10 years or so.

I would accept the argument though that Wolves haven’t been as productive in the centres this year – compared to past seasons – when Bridge and Ryan Atkins have held down the roles.

Both look to have struggled with form and injuries, while interrupted combinations with a half-back pairing that has changed so regularly has not been helpful either.

I’m not convinced Wolves will add any more players to their three-quarter line for 2016, even if fresh terms are not agreed with another centre option Gary Wheeler who joined on a 12-month deal from St Helens.

With big money already paid to bring Tom Lineham in from Hull and Joel Monaghan able to move into the centre position on a more regular basis, I expect Wolves to say they have the base covered.

Atkins, Rhys Evans, Toby King, Stefan Ratchford, Gene Ormsby, under 19s player Harvey Livett and Ben Currie can all slot in as and when required.

With Evans, Ormsby, Monaghan, Matty Russell, Kevin Penny and newly promoted Jack Johnson as wing possibles along with Lineham, Wolves do not look short – although we are yet to learn if Penny has a contract for next year.

Take your pick from Kurt Gidley, Stefan Ratchford, Russell, Penny and Johnson at full back, while Evans has played there for Wales and Ormsby at Academy level.

Gidley and Ratchford will be in the mix for the halves too, along with the new arrival, Gareth O’Brien and Declan Patton - although the Bridge option will be gone and we don’t yet have confirmation on Wheeler.

If any more backs are signed, I reckon it would be an all-rounder who can do a job wherever needed but it is in the pack where I feel any more spending should and will be done.

Roy Asotasi’s contract is up and Paul Wood departed on the eve of the 2015 season, so I would say priority is to bring in another front rower to work alongside Chris Hill, Ashton Sims, Ben Harrison, Anthony England, Ben Evans and George King.
