APPLETON Tigers fought valiantly in the field but fell to a five-wicket defeat at Chester Boughton Hall.

Charlotte Cross, 20, and Emma Barlow, 15, put on a good opening stand of 40 and Sami Fowler chipped in lower down the order with 18 runs to take Appleton to 86 all out.

Annie Rashid’s bowling gave the Tigers hope of defending their below par total as she took three wickets for 10 runs from her eight overs.

Fowler beat the outside edge of the bat repeatedly and was unlucky not to be rewarded with a wicket as Chester reached their target with six overs to spare.
