TONY Smith confirmed Richie Myler and Roy Asotasi were dropped for Warrington Wolves’ clash with Castleford Tigers as a result of their performances in the Challenge Cup semi-final loss to Leeds Rhinos.
Asked if his decision to start Chris Bridge and Gareth O’Brien in the halves was forced throught injury or a selection choice, Smith said: “Last week our half backs didn’t control the play well enough so we went elsewhere and tried a different combination again.
“There’s a consequence to not performing and sometimes it’s by missing out, though it’s not always that way.
“We’ve got a lot of fresh bodies at the moment and a lot of people who are vying for positions.
“If you don’t perform, you miss out.
“When there’s injuries, you get your job anyway. When there’s people lining up for a go you’ve got to make sure you take your opportunities.”
Smith previously showed he was not accepting underperformance when leaving joint skipper Bennie Westwood out of the team for the game against Catalan Dragons in France a fortnight ago.
