WARRINGTON Town have given their promotion dream the perfect tonic.
A draw at home to sixth place Ramsbottom United on Saturday would secure their place in the play-offs after they turned party poopers at newly crowned champions Curzon Ashton at the weekend.
But Shaun Reid’s men could still finish anywhere between second and eighth, with further remaining games to come at home to relegation threatened Prescot Cables on Monday and away to Harrogate Railway Athletic on Saturday, April 26, all kick offs 3pm.
Town became only the second side this season to win at Curzon.
Goals from Ciaran Kilheeney, a penalty in the first half to make it 1-1 and a near post header in the second half to level at 2-2, paved the way for Scott Metcalfe’s 72nd minute winner as he lobbed the keeper from 40 yards.
The hosts went in front when skipper Sam Walker curled in a free kick after seven minutes but Town levelled within five minutes after Chris Gahgan went down in the box, allowing Kilheeney to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot.
Chris Young headed home a free kick to make it 2-1 at the break.
With the wind behind them Warrington took the game to the hosts and were rewarded when a David Mannix corner was headed home at the near post by Kilheeney.
Metcalfe’s decisive score was a contender for goal of the season and Yellows dug deep to hold on.
