WARRINGTON Wizards head coach Danny Lima wants more players to attend pre-season training ahead of their first game of the season on February 3.

The former Warrington Wolves prop was appointed as Wizards' new boss last month, with Karl Taylor as his assistant, but he is slightly concerned about the number of players currently in training with a Challenge Cup first-round match less than four weeks away.

"Training has been good but I've been a bit disappointed with the numbers," said the 31-year-old.

"A lot of the lads are playing in the local winter leagues and I don't mind that, but the lads who are coming to training as well are really benefiting from it.

"We need 17 or 18 players for the season but there are only six or seven training at the moment."

The Rugby League Conference National club have lost a number of players to Crosfields - coached by their former boss Eddie Harris - but Lima, who this week denied rumours he had left his playing contract at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, is still setting his sights high.

He said: "I really want us to improve on our league position, to compete in the National Rail Cup and progress in the Challenge Cup."
